From the Chamber of Commerce:
Blizzard 200: By now you probably have received our letter announcing plans for the 2012 Blizzard and a request for sponsor investment. We are still planning the races, pending a hopefully snowier few weeks ahead.
Snowsfest 2012: Plans for Snowsfest are well underway, and the theme is "Under the Big Top," a circus theme. Events start Thursday, February 16, with our popular ice fishing contest, and will wrap-up Sunday, February 19, with the Snowsfest raffle drawing. Please watch your mail for your letter announcing a tentative schedule of events!

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE UPDATE - 1-17-2012
As you may have heard, however, it just hasn't been enough to create a safe and suitable track for our Blizzard 200 vintage snowmobile races originally scheduled January 28 & 29. The races have been postponed for January, and the Blizzard Committee is researching possible future dates. We will let you know as soon as we know if we are able to reschedule!
There is still plenty to do this winter, though, as you will see on the Chamber's event calendar at www.lescheneaux.net. There you will also see a preview of 2012 events and dates, as well as a new link on the homepage to the Les Cheneaux area snowmobile trails report! That report is brought to you by the Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Club, which continues to groom over 100 miles of trails throughout the area.
The Snowmobile Club is hosting an open house to celebrate the opening of its new East Unit Groomer Storage Building near DeTour this coming Sunday, January 22, at 2 pm. Everyone is invited to come out and see the building while munching on some snacks provided by the Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Club. State Rep. Frank Foster is also expected to visit.
Planning continues for Snowsfest 2012 - Under the Big Top! Most of you know that Snowsfest happens regardless of the weather, and we're planning another full slate of activities for President's Day Weekend, February 17-19. See you there! Congratulations to Caroline Freel, winner of the Snowsfest Button Design Contest at Les Cheneaux Community Schools. Caroline is a 5th grade student, and her bright clown design will grace this year's Snowsfest buttons. Look for those by the end of this week or early next week!
We also wanted to let you know of an opportunity to promote your business at the annual Michigan Tourism Conference by donating a silent auction item. This event is attended by hundreds of lodging, tourism and media professionals. Read below for more info. You can attend this conference, too-- it's a great way to keep up with what's happening in Michigan tourism.
The Pure Michigan Governor's Conference on Tourism is rapidly approaching. This year's conference will be held March 25-27, 2012 at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, MI.
On Monday, March 26th, MLTA's Annual Silent Auction will take place. Proceeds go to MLTA's 501(c)(3) Educational Foundation which provides scholarships for hospitality/tourism students in colleges and universities throughout Michigan.
MLTA is asking for donations to help make this year's Silent Auction our best ever! Past packages have included hotel gift certificates, wine baskets, golf packages, overnight accommodations and so much more. Every donation supports education and benefits our industry.
If you have any questions please contact Kylie Binns at (517) 267-8989 or email kylieb@milodging.org.
All certificates can be mailed to 3815 W. St. Joseph Hwy, STE A200 Lansing, MI 48917.
Please mail any heavy items directly to the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel to arrive no sooner than March 22nd and no later than March 25th with the label reading "Pure Michigan Governor's Conference: Attn: Kylie Binns".
Please note: If you date your certificates good for one year, individuals will not be bidding on these items until March so please date the certificates from March 2012 to allow winners a full year to utilize the package.

2 - Getting people to shop at your stores can be helped by spreading the word about the great merchandise we carry in our local businesses. I can''''t tell you how often I hear people say they didn''''t know about a local sale or event, or about the many cool things you carry in your stores. I encourage all businesses who are members of the Les Cheneaux Chamber of Commerce or Tourist Association to use our Facebook page to promote your holiday specials, gift items, sales...whatever you want people to know more about!! You can simply post your info on the page, which has 730+ fans right now.
Or...get me your information, and I will do whatever I can to get the word out, as time allows!
In the mean time, boost your advertising efforts by taking advantage of some the *free* outlets you can use to spread the word. Facebook and Twitter are legitimate marketing tools that are free and pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. I am happy to help with Facebook and Twitter questions.
If you are on Facebook or Twitter and are not linked to the Les Cheneaux Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Association, let me know and I will "like" your page or "follow" you in Twitter.
Happy holidays and good luck hunting!

Recycling
For those who don't already know it, please be aware that the community's free recycling program-- administered through recycling trailers that were across from Les Cheneaux Community Schools-- has moved to the McMaken Carpentry and Green Choice property at 690 W. M-134, Cedarville. To access the trailers, use the driveway off M-134 that services Autore Oil, Les Cheneaux Welcome Center and McMaken Carpentry, stay to the left side of the drive and continue through to the offices behind the McMaken house and continue down a hill to the trailers. Signs should guide your way once you get there. They are also accepting trash for $4 a bag. Questions? Call 906.484.3377
